Presenting our results to farmers…

Today, we (Julen Urra, Lur Epelde and Carlos Garbisu) have been presenting to some farmers in San Vicente de Arana (Araba) the results obtained in our latest study on the impact of home-made liquid organic fertilizers on soil quality, with special emphasis on soil microbial communities as indicators of such quality. This study is part of Julen´s PhD thesis on the impact of organic farming practices on soil microbial communities. The experiment was carried out under real field conditions (maize and lettuce crops) in 2015. We are now planning to repeat it in 2016 to confirm our findings. In this respect, we have found very similar results in terms of crop yield and soil quality with the home-made liquid organic fertilizers as compared to an NPK-based traditional inorganic fertilizer.
